So, after seeing Tavi's winged eyeliner --a novelty to me at the time-- I was inspired to imitate the effect on myself. At first, it was difficult. But, with practice, liquid eyeliner, and numerous YouTube makeup tutorials, I finally managed to make wings for my eyes. Yay.
Anyway, I've really grown to love winged eyeliner. I not only love that it enhances my eyes, but winged eyeliner gives me this feeling of confidence that I can get from few other beauty/cosmetic related things. I feel prettier, more mature, even a bit empowered. Through winged eyeliner, I'm capable of expressing my moods. On days where I feel like being all cute and sweet and innocent, I do a small wing that starts thin in the inner corner of my eye, gets thicker as the line goes out, and takes off into a tiny but thick little wing pointing up into the corners of my eyebrows. Other days, I want to feel more dramatic and serious, in which case I go thicker. Bigger wings, thicker eyeliner on the lash line, everything.
Also, winged eyeliner gives me a feeling of individuality, which I love. While a lot of people I know regularly wear eyeliner, it's a bit rarer to see girls do winged eyeliner.
And I also love the reactions I get to my eyeliner. I have often been on the receiving end of compliments regarding my eyeliner wings (from both girls and guys!). This gives me an even greater sense of confidence in my appearance, as I'm rarely on the receiving end of compliments regarding appearance, and to be complimented on an aspect of my appearance that I love as much as my eyeliner is just freaking awesome.
Lately, I'm trying to expand and make wings with eyeshadow. I have this purple shade that looks amazing when done in a nice, neat wing (but looks horrifying when it doesn't come out as well as I'd hoped!).

P.S., Here's a chart with some different winged eyeliner ideas if wings are something you want to start trying out, or if you want to mix up what you're already doing with your wings. I find it's best to use liquid eyeliner for wings, since the wing will end up being sharper, and the whole thing will be more vibrant looking and whatnot. |
